Founder Sharon Berman, fueled by her entrepreneurial
spirit, left the corporate world and founded Berbay
Marketing & PR, a marketing consultancy agency
dedicated to professional service firms. One of our
favorite stories is how Berbay got its name – it’s a love
story. Sharon’s husband, Jonathan Kramer, gave Sharon
the nickname Berman Baby early on. When it came time
to name the firm, she shortened her nickname to Berbay.
Sharon would always follow up with, “But that’s not how I
would recommend anyone name their firm!”
It was the first of many firsts—our first office opened in
Tarzana, California, and Berbay landed its first client, a
CPA firm. If you want to talk about humble beginnings,
the first office was above an auto repair shop; however,
getting your car serviced while working was convenient.
Berbay made its first hire, marketing the start
of a growing team and the journey to agency life.
Our first website goes live! For a small agency to
develop a website in 1997 was a big deal given that
the World Wide Web was only released in 1991.
As Berbay grew—with new employees and clients—
we decided it was time for a bigger space and
relocated to West Los Angeles, where we called
our home for more than twenty years.
It was time for a brand upgrade to reflect the agency’s early growth.
We updated our logo and introduced our iconic tagline, “Turning
How? Into Wow!” It was a simple philosophy: clients came to
Berbay not knowing how to market, and we turned that into wow
accomplishments. The logo included an interrobang (?!), the term
for when a question mark and an exclamation point are next to
each other. Thank you to the appellate lawyer who told us the word
interrobang years after our logo was established.
We established our first registered trademark, capturing what we do best:
increasing our clients’ visibility and enhancing their credibility – and we’ve
been doing that for three decades.
Senior Account Manager Beth Miller joined Berbay
and never looked back. Two decades later, she’s
become a fixture of our team and clients.
The iconic Berbay cookie boxes debuted, adding a *sweet*
touch to our marketing. What was famously considered a
donut box then, we came with a box full of cookies for every
meeting a Berbay team member attended. This tradition
continues today, and there are still times when we are
stopped in an elevator with a comment, “Are those the
Berbay cookies?”
Megan Braverman, Berbay’s current Owner and Principal, was
hired as an Assistant Account Manager. Little did we know
(and maybe even Megan) that she’d eventually take the reins
of the business in 2016 as Co-Principal with Sharon Berman
and acquired the firm in 2021 with a similar passion and
enthusiasm as when Sharon began.
Berbay stepped into this decade with a new
website, giving it a sleek facelift to better reflect
our expertise, creativity and passion for
marketing & public relations.
Account Director Aly Crea joins the growing Berbay crew.
Hired as an Account Manager , Aly progressed quickly and
was the first to assume the Account Director role at Berbay.
The Law Firm Marketing Catalyst podcast drops, kicking
off a series of more than 100 episodes. The podcast was
dedicated to insights from thought leaders and experts in
the legal industry.
After years of planning, Megan officially took ownership of the agency.
While ownership changed, our focus on bringing energy, creativity, and
unwavering dedication to our clients’ marketing remained the same.
While some may see this as a pandemic-related shift,
we had embraced virtual work early on. In 2019, due
to a fire in our office building, the agency abruptly
went virtual for four months. Once we were back in
our physical office, the agency allowed a hybrid and
flexible work environment to contribute to a better
work-life balance and less time in the car. At that
time, we knew the expiration of our office lease
meant it was time to go remote.
After more than a decade, we knew it was time for a fresh
look—especially following our recent ownership change. The
Berbay red remains, but our modern rebrand reflects our
evolution while staying true to our firm’s foundation of
professionalism, sophistication, expertise and creativity.
Who knew that 30 could look this good? We’re grateful for our many
clients – some of whom have been with us for over 20 years – and our
unstoppable team. Here’s to another 30 years of growth and success!
