I was riding in the elevator from the parking garage to my networking event with a man wearing a name badge similar to the one I was wearing. He asked if I was attending the same networking meeting as he was. Although I was not, it got us talking about the group he was involved with and his profession. We exited the elevator, conversed briefly, exchanged business cards and went our separate ways.
It’s a good reminder that even an elevator ride can be a good networking opportunity. It happens in the places you least expect it, and it made me think of the importance of professionalism at all times and always being prepared to give your “elevator pitch”.
