Balboa Park is where much of the city’s tourism is happens. It is the location of the San Diego Zoo, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Photographic Arts and the Air & Space Museum. Other popular tourist attractions include SeaWorld and Legoland.
- San Diego is one of California’s most concentrated centers of renewable energy employment with more than 850 companies, some of which being Sempra Energy and Cleantech San Diego. Employment in this sector increased 73%, while total regional employment grew 26%, from 1995 to 2010.
- San Diego offers state-of-the-art healthcare and is considered a leader in technology-driven health innovation, including the emerging field of wireless health. In 2014, Kaiser Permanente, Sharp Healthcare and UC San Diego Medical Center collectively employed 4.3% of the city’s workforce, or nearly 31,000 people (CAFR).
- 60% of the technology developed in unmanned aerospace systems was performed in San Diego County. With increasing use of aerial drones for commercial and consumer purposes, the area is well positioned to benefit in the future.
- The University of California, San Diego, the second largest employer in San Diego County as of 2014, has become one of the top ten public universities in the country in a span of only fifty years (CAFR). Some other universities in the city include San Diego State University, the University of San Diego, and Point Loma Nazarene University. The city also has many community colleges, including San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, and San Diego Miramar College.
